I turned 55 this week.

And the funny thing is, I feel like I’m just getting started.

Eight years ago, I walked away from corporate life. I didn’t have some grand plan for what the next decade was going to look like. I just knew I wanted to build something different.

What’s happened since then still kind of blows my mind.

At an age when a lot of people around me are starting to slow down, I feel like I’m accelerating.

I’m taking more risks than I did 10 years ago.

I’m learning more.

Traveling more.

Building more.

I built a content studio in my basement.

I’m working with brands and building partnerships around the world.

I’m transforming Hands On Angel from an advisory business into a media platform.

And probably the thing I’m most proud of, I’ve gone from helping hundreds of founders every year to reaching thousands.

None of this was part of the plan eight years ago.

And I think there’s a lesson in that for founders.

We spend way too much time thinking there’s some timeline we’re supposed to be following.

You should have raised by now.

You should be further along.

You should have figured it out already.

According to who?

Some of the best things that have happened in my life started when I stopped worrying about where I was “supposed” to be and started focusing on where I wanted to go.

That doesn’t mean every risk works.

They don’t.

It doesn’t mean I have everything figured out.

I definitely don’t.

But I’m more willing today to try something, learn from it, adjust and keep moving than I probably was 20 years ago.

Maybe that’s what getting older has actually taught me.

You have less interest in playing it safe just because everyone else thinks you should.

Eight years ago, I thought I was walking away from something.

Turns out I was walking toward something.

And at 55, I’m nowhere near done.

I’m accelerating.
